For Fox Sake !

The Fox (Canidae, Carnivora, Mammalia) is a world-wide animal now. In the UK in particular, it was the focus of hunting parties and chased by hounds until death, brought on simply by exhaustion. I am glad to say that such hunting is now banned in Great Britain.

The habitat of the English fox has also changed. You are far more likely to see a fox in an urban setting rather than in the wild. Foxes have learned to live alongside the ever-encroaching march of towns and cities. During the night dustbins are often turned over and the contents searched by enterprising foxes. In history they are always portrayed as being cunning or sly. I don't know why they are considered more cunning than other wild creatures but they simply are.

Numerous films either feature foxes or have the name Fox in the title. Walt Disney even made cartoon films such as Robin Hood, probably because Robin had to be clever and crafty. My favourite 'Fox' film is The Belstone Fox. The fox in this is indeed very clever and outwits the hounds that are always out to get him. In one memorable scene near the end, it looks bad for him but he just has the strength to lure the hounds into a railway tunnel. The hundred dogs or so follow him in. He exits behind them so to speak and then you hear the sound of a train coming through the tunnel. Result - the dogs don't come out again!!

Some of the cards with this article are rather strange. For example there is a Fox giving food to a hen and her chick (who live in a tree!). And you will see a Female Fox wearing a Fox Stole around her neck. That is a little creepy isn't it? I mean, you don't see many humans wearing a Stole made of human skin! A Fox wearing an item made from foxes is very unlikely. It is like a Turkey voting for Christmas.

Here are some Foxes from my collection. As usual, underneath I will give the name of the game and the publisher.
